Winter Break: 2012 in Review

Hello from the Kazan Family!

We have just wrapped up yet another great semester for USC Kazan Taiko.

This year, we welcomed quite a number of new members who will now compromise the WATER DRAGON generation! They have been working hard learning and memorizing songs like Matsuri, Miyake, and have even began learning Eisa! We have quite an impressive and hard-working group of new members who will definitely shine in our upcoming Spring Concert.

We are thankful to have had workshops from amazing taiko performers like the Kinnara Taiko (who also lets us use the temple for practice space), Kris Bergstrom, alumna Akemi Imai, and more! We’re grateful that they shared their knowledge with us and had a great time with them this semester.

Kazan family also got closer and bonded through various social events, like dinners, winter pot luck, and get-togethers. We truly believe that Kazan is more than just an ensemble group– as we learn more about one another, we truly become a tight-knit family, a group of unique individuals who love to play taiko together, and just have fun with one another!

As for performances, we had numerous events such as the Mabuhay Festival, Mi Cultura Night, APASA Tailgates, and more! We thank those who were in charge of these events for a great performance opportunity for not only the older members, but also our growing new Water Dragons as well.

Lastly, Executive Board has begun the process of planning out the SPRING CONCERT! Look for more details in the future… it will be an amazing and exciting concert to look forward to.

That’s about it for updates from the Kazan Taiko Family… We wish everyone a happy holiday, a restful break, and a happy new year!

See y’all in 2013!

With Taiko Love,

USC Kazan Taiko
