Finals are officially over, which means.… FREEDOM!!! And the Holidays!!
From our taiko family to yours, Kazan wishes you a Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year!
See you in 2015!!
A little while back, Kazan held its last meeting of the semester as a Christmas themed potluck/gift exchange/game night to celebrate the holidays and the end of classes, and to prepare for the onslaught of impending finals. It was an evening filled with laughs, gifts, and waaaay too much food, but it helped remind us all why we chose to be part of Kazan. The warm and friendly family dynamic we share is something not easily found in many college organizations, but to us, nights like these are truly the best way to gather together and close out the semester.
Several weeks back, Kazan had the pleasure of inviting back one of our esteemed alumni Akemi Imai to teach a Miyake workshop to our members! First, everyone reviewed the regular portion of Miyake together to refresh our memories and get warmed up. Then, each member received individual feedback from Akemi on their form, stance, and how to channel their inner energy and power into each hit, while those not receiving feedback got to practice their Miyake base beat. After that, we discussed what attributes make a good solo, and then everyone got a chance to try out an original Miyake solo of their own. And, at the end or practice, a few of the older members even got to practice their fast solos! Thank you for your tips and advice, Akemi! Kazan is forever grateful for your continued support, and our Miyake form and style is looking even better thanks to your help!
