In less than 24 hours, Kazan Taiko’s 6th annual spring concert “KOBU” will commence!
This year, our inspiration for the show first came from the idea of “fusion”: mixing different sounds, rhythms, and visuals together to bring a new take on traditional songs, as well as create a dynamic repertoire that reflects the diverse skills of our members and guest performers. We have the pleasure this year of collaborating with groups such as USC Wushu Nation, USC Haneulsori, and USC Shinkendo. Contrary to simply inviting them as guest performers, in the true spirit of the show, we have developed brand new integrated pieces that are true performance “collaborations” between our groups, and have also worked to create new songs that revamp our existing repertoire! We are excited to debut these new pieces, and hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
Additionally, our show’s title is officially called “Kobu,” which translates to “invigoration” or “encouragement.” However, its kanji (鼓舞) literally mean “drum dance.” Thus, as we perform our concert with pieces old and new, we hope to convey the rhythm and power that truly make the art of taiko a “drum dance.”
For Kazan taiko, the spring concert is truly the culmination of an entire year’s worth of work, and each and every one of our members has put their heart and soul into learning their pieces. We believe without a doubt that this concert will be the best one yet, and can’t wait to step on stage tomorrow night to show you everything we have achieved! Best of all, admission is FREE, so we sincerely hope to see you out at our 6th annual spring concert tomorrow!
